Storyline:
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 picks up directly after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Following Sonic’s victory over Dr. Robotnik (Eggman) and the destruction of his Death Egg, the giant space station crash-lands on Angel Island, a floating landmass in the sky held aloft by the powerful Master Emerald.
Knuckles the Echidna, the island’s guardian, is deceived by Dr. Robotnik into believing that Sonic and Tails are a threat who have come to steal the Master Emerald. In reality, Robotnik is manipulating Knuckles so he can repair the Death Egg and use the Master Emerald to power it.
Sonic and Tails arrive on Angel Island to investigate the crash and stop Robotnik’s schemes. Along the way, they face various traps set by Robotnik, as well as frequent ambushes from Knuckles, who attempts to thwart their progress at every turn.
As Sonic and Tails journey through the island’s diverse zones—ranging from lush jungles to fiery volcanoes—they gradually uncover the truth about Robotnik’s deception. By the end of the game, Knuckles realizes he’s been tricked and allies with Sonic and Tails to stop Robotnik.
The story concludes with Sonic and Tails thwarting Robotnik’s plans and preventing him from fully restoring the Death Egg. However, the adventure continues in the direct sequel, Sonic & Knuckles, which expands on the storyline and Knuckles’ redemption arc.
This engaging narrative marked one of the first times a Sonic game included a more detailed and cinematic storyline, contributing to its lasting appeal among fans.
